D'NIF - "Duty Not Including Flying"
D'NIF was 44-40100. coded 3Q:E, an original 491st a/c taken to England by
the Nester crew. It was repaired at Woodbridge (after mission of 10 Nov,
pilot Meuse) during the period 11 - 21 November 1944 (#3 engine and
hydraulic system) and again at Manston 26 Nov - 11 Dec 1944
(#4 engine and battle damage). It was returned to duty, survived the war,
and was returned to the States.

The character is meant to be a likeness of the GI cartoon character Sad Sack.
One of his "Duties Not Including Flying" was to visit the 'Pro Station'
after any possible exposure to VD while on liberty.
